Benefits of strength training in an aging population.
For many older adults, growing older involves an inevitable loss of strength, energy and vigour. But it need not be so.
The decrease in energy we associate with aging is due to a loss of muscle mass which results from inactivity. Strength training or training against resistance is the best way to keep muscles strong, flexible and healthy. When done on a regular basis strength training has been shown to build bone and muscle and helps preserve strength, independence and energy.
Strength training is safe and effective for men and women of all ages, including those that are not in perfect health. People with health concerns such as Arthritis, Diabetes or Heart conditions have been shown to benefit the most from a regular exercise program. Strength training when done alongside an aerobic program can have a positive effect on a persons mental and emotional health too.
Starting a new training program is a journey and requires a step-by-step approach which we are here to help you with. Tracy and Chrissy run a supervised strength training session for seniors that is on Tuesday’s between the hours of 10.30am – 12noon. For more information click Here
